The tradition of siesta is nearing an end

si·es·ta /siˈɛstə/ –noun
a midday or afternoon rest or nap, esp. as taken in Spain and Latin America.

I love siesta. I think it's great. But today, I was bored.

And my hair was dirty - I would have taken a shower, but Maria was at the peluquería (hair salon) and the hot water heater wasn't plugged in. So I decided to wash my bangs, a little trick I learned from Lindsay. After that, I felt better, but but I was still unsatisfied.

As seeing how Sam was awake, we had the following conversation:

Me: I think I will cut my bangs

Sam: Okay. Use my hair cutting scissors

Me: Okay.

Then I got the scissors and remembered the last time I cut my bangs. It was completely unnoticable. Meanwhile Sam was wondering if I knew how to cut my hair.

Someday, I will remember that hair is not cut like paper - with straight lines. That day was not today. I took hold of my bangs, and lobbed off three inches. It was a very satisfactory noise for someone who was fed up with hair. It also answered Sam's question.

I looked in the mirror and gasped. Sam said, "Ellen, you didn't cut them straight, did you?" I responded "Uh... maybe? yes. Uh oh"

Sam said "Oh dear."

Fortunately for me, Sam the former art major does know that hair is not to be cut in straight clean lines. I went over and pleaded with her to fix it, which she did. Later she told me that she was scared to death.

In the end, it turned out fine, but I think when I return to the US I will seek professional help.

How funny Ellen! I also cut my bangs today! They were really bothering me! I can't seek professional help until the 29th, so I had to take care of it myself TODAY!
I can't believe you come back on Saturday! I know mom and dad and Ralph are looking forward to seeing you!

I've been cutting my bangs for years and have done some for people. I even cut your entire head of hair once if you remember. tsk. Should've waited for me. ;) I just bought my first pair of hair scissors yesterday!

Elena, I feel left out somehow. I am growing my hair longer than you have seen since your junior year of HS. You can advise me to seek different professional help or have Sam the artist or Steph the new scissor owner work some magic on an old head. Enjoy every single moment of Friday. I love you, Dad
