I have now been in Jerez, my city, for approximately one and one-half days. I have already completed my non-serious "just for fun" goals for the year. What does that mean?
1. Ride on moto with Spaniard. Done.
2. Make Spanish friends. Done.
3. Party with Spanish friends until la madrugada (the early morning). Done.
4. Drink tinto and sangria. Done.
5. Find a bike. Done.
I cannot believe how different this experience is so far from my study abroad trip. Perhaps because people keep saying that I "dominate" el castellano (Spanish). It makes me giggle a little inside every time I say it.
I make friends. People here smile at each other. They dress normally. I´m one of the few Americans that they know. My housemate, Fabiola, is awesome. She introduced me to her 22 year-old nephew (sobrino) that lives on the floor below. I hung out with him and his friends last night. They don´t smoke. Or get drunk. Yay!! And I went to bed at seven am. What? I know. I know.
Also, Abel´s family (nephew) has five bikes. You know how many they use? thero. I mean zero.
So far, so good. But I do miss my American friends a lot. Especially the deep discussions we can have in English. However, very rarely in my life have I felt like so many people were praying for me. So thank you.
Well, it´s almost 3:15 and that means lunchtime. Heh.

I am so glad that you are doing so well! Look at you staying up until the wee hours of the morning, meeting friends...riding your bike. Through your words I can see your smiling face :) Loving you and praying for you always always :)
ELLEN! I am so happy for you! It sounds like things are working out really well! When do you start teaching?
I feel like I am going to be living vicariously through your blog posts.. so keep it up! :) I'm so excited for you!
I found your blog!
You have a bike!
We are on Skype RIGHT NOW!
Hola mi amiga,
I was so pumped after our conversation I had a dream about flying to Barcelona. For some reason the flight started with me watching my first car drive itself into a terrible accident before we all helped to inflate the airplane in which we later flew, but all was not lost. The pilots were way cute. We ended up spending our first night at a camp site, which was strange and unexpected (I can't believe I didn't think to bring a sleeping bag to Spain!).
Anyhow when I woke up I thought I'd better check the flights again, just to make sure they would take me all the way to Barcelona.
I will do my darndest to keep up on your blog and leave muchos commentos. I've delighted in reading all of yours.
Yay! I'm so excited for you :) :) It sounds like things are starting off really well and God is blessing you even in your first steps in the country. Continue to enjoy it!
Ellen, I'm glad you have been blessed with friends in such a foreign place. And I'm glad you dominate the Castellano.
I hope Tyler and I are blessed with friends soon, though I can say that Spanish speakers generally say I do a good job at work. :)
