They didn't all upload, but there are some now! Yesterday we went in small groups on a 2.5 hour walking tour of Seville, led by sevillanas that were our age. My guides names were Isa and Inma. Walking around and talking with them really helped me understand the Castillian accent. I have started to practice it now. Maria (my host mom) only lisps on soft c's and z's. Isa and Inma lisped on all the s sounds. Sam and I have started to put it into practice when we speak with people around town.
So far today, I have registered for classes, exchanged my money, purchased una tarjeta de recarga (like a refill card for minutes) for my new cell phone, gotten a bus map, and purchased a bonobus card (which gives me unlimited rides on the bus system for the next month - a good thing since I usually take the bus about 6 times a day, seriously!). I did all these things in Spanish. Oo! I also got 2 smiles from Spaniards. This is a BIG deal. They don't smile at people they don't know, because why waste the energy? I learned that today. And now we are having a siesta. The reason for the siesta is because it gets so hot here (so far, not as hot as Kansas City) that everyone just goes home and hangs out. Sam gets wireless internet in our room sometimes. It's just faint enough that my computer doesn't pick it up. Oh well. She also always sleeps during siesta, and I don't. I would have to take out my contacts and take off my eyeliner (which I have started wearing so that I look more Spanish) and I'm just not that tired.
Yesterday we took a taxi! That was fun. On our walking tour, we saw almost all the sights of Seville. We saw the fountain that looks like the one in Kansas City with all the faces. It's bigger and more beautiful here... imagine that! We also saw the Plaza de Espana which is where the filmed part of Star Wars, episode IV on Naboo. It's totally beautiful.
I stepped in horse poo in Parque Maria Luisa after playing with the pigeons. Good thing I am not scared of live birds anymore! Sam and I might go see the pigeons again today. They are way fun and there are lots of small children there to observe. Sometimes I get a little jealous around small children here because they speak better Spanish than I do and I've been studying it since before they were alive!
Seville is absolutely beautiful, but there are also not so beautiful things about it. For example, no one picks up poop. So you might be walking down the sidewalk and there are all these piles of dog poo laying around. And when it gets hot, you can imagine the smell...
The Spanish are very blunt. It is completely acceptable to call someone fat to their face. Also, if my host mom were to make something I didn't like, I would have to tell her "I don't like this" otherwise she would think I did and make me eat more of it. So far I have liked everything she has made. I acquired a taste for tea on the airplane and I think it's so good now! We haven't had any seafood because she has hosted 6 American girls each year since 1998 and she said that maybe 3 have liked seafood. So far, there have been no tentacles in our food.
Hasta manana!

Ellenesita! (I don't think I spelled that correctly in either language)
I smile when I think of you roaming around Spain with your cute haircut, happy smile and new eyeliner. I bet the Spanish children with they were you sometimes too - studying abroad in a new place and being very independent.
I think of you and Sam often. i met my roomates today, right now we are adjusting to living together here in Oxford. Oh boy!
Oh, Ellen, You make me laugh and smile! What a great adventure.
Ellen and a Bird! who'd a thunk it?
I have to say I'm impressed!
Tania Vargas
