Parks are for studying!

This could also be titled: Ellen Gets Asked Out by a Spanish Man.

So, we have a very busy week this week. lots of tests and a presentation. I went to the park today to study history. I was there for probably 2.5 hours reading and taking notes. About 2 hours into it, a man came and sat on the bench across from mine. I should point out that there was a fountain in between us, so I couldn't really see him, I could just see that he was there. I continued note-taking and reading about the mudejares (Muslims who lived in Christian Spain in the 15th C.) He was there for awhile, and I didn't think anything of it.
After a while, he got up and walked toward me. I thought, "Here we go." Poor guy. Here is how our conversation went down:

Spanish Man (S.M.): "Umm, Excuse me. Disculpe. Hi."
Ellen: "Hola"
S.M.: "Sorry. I don't mean to interrupt you - you're studying. Sorry. I just wanted to ask you something... What's your name?"
Me (at this point thinking Stranger Danger): "Elena."
S.M. (who looks like he might run away and be satisfied knowing that): "Are you from here?"
Me (Thinking about telling him I'm Canadian): "No."
S.M.: "Oh. I am. Disculpe. I'm not trying to be creepy. I just... do you... would you like to go have a Coke?"
Me: "No."
S.M.: "Okay. Sorry. Excuse me. Sorry." (exit stage right)

At this point, studying was done. I tried about 3 times, but I could not bring myself to finish it. So I packed up camp and went to Pans & Company, the cafe that's right under our school. We pick up the Acento wireless signal and so for the price of whatever you get to drink, it's free, secure internet as long as you want. I'm having 2 euro hot chocolate. It would be better with churros. That's alright though. It's cheaper without them.
But now that's this blog is done, I should start researching the reasons why the conquista of Peru was so easy. Yay presentations!
I hope you enjoyed that story. I did.

THIS IS HILARIOUS!
I'm sorry I didn't comment more on your past blogs, there were just so many at once! But I read them all and have looked at your photos and they are fabulous! It almost looks like you've been edited into them. Weird.

Elena, I am thankful this happened at this point in your travels. I am sure your mother is as well. If you would have asked, this is what we would have been most afraid of prior to you going there. SM is disapointed I am sure, but you are safe and God is Good. I trust you did well on all the things you were studying too. I'm sure 2 euro hot chocolate helped. Thanks for a great story and an exceptional handling of the situation. Love, Dad
