Rapid Rome

When we got off the plane in Rome, we promptly thought of all the cliches we could think of.
"All roads lead to Rome"
"Rome wasn't built in a day"
When in Rome..."
We arrived after after dark, at about 8:30pm. (0r 20:30h if you prefer) We got on the airport bus (public transporation is so great) and went and found our hostel. I must say, it was a little sketchy, but at the same time, everything I always pictured a 13 euro/night hostel to be. I comforted myself by reminding myself that I would be sleeping in my own bed in Sevilla the next night. We got some more pasta and went to bed.
Friday morning we woke up, ate some free breakfast, and went to the Colosseum. It was amazing. I almost cried twice.
Then we went to see some more Roman ruins, followed by the Trevi fountain. (This is what I wanted to do.) Afterwards, we ate pizza really quickly and I hopped on the Metro (once again, public transportation) and caught a train to the airport.
From there, I flew home to Sevilla. I sat next to a really nice Italian woman. We were able to communicate a little. She let me have the window seat and flying over the Mediterranean was beautiful.
All in all, I was in Rome 18 hours, from arrival to departure. About 3.5 hours were spent sight-seeing. I saw everything I really wanted to see; then I returned to beautiful, sunny, warm Sevilla; ate a free delicious meal, and slept in a bed that was in no way sketchy. In a room by myself.
Sweet dreams indeed.

Hi Elena, thanks for the outstanding descriptive prose about your week of fun. It felt like being there with you during every story. When did you and Michael ever discuss gondolas? Who won the bagette fight? what made you almost cry at the colosium? Sorry for all the questions but I want to know. Hope your feet are a little better. Love Dad

Ralph and I discussed gondolas on his birthday. He is certain that they are only used for going up ski slopes.
Well, I almost cried at just being in the Colosseum and then I saw there is this big iron cross when you first go in and I was very moved by that, because I'd been thinking about all the Christians that were fed to lions there.
Who won the baguette fight? Let's call it a draw because we both gave up and just ate them. Mine had poppy seeds, which I think would put me in the lead because it's tastier, but Jackie's was 5 euro cents cheaper. Hard to say.
